ST. LOUIS — A federal judge has sentenced a Missouri man to 51 months in prison for using stolen personal information to buy five vehicles valued at about $333,000.
Michael Calvin, 45, was also ordered to pay $193,000 in restitution, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Federal prosecutors said Calvin purchased stolen personal information and a Missouri driver’s license template on the dark web, then created false identification documents. Between November 2023 and August 2024, he used the information to purchase vehicles from dealerships in Iowa, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
Calvin pleaded guilty in May to two counts of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. The case was investigated by federal, state and local agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
