JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missourians may be owed money or property they have forgotten about, and checking the state database takes only a few minutes.
The Missouri State Treasurer’s Office says it holds approximately $1 billion in unclaimed property connected to more than 5 million owner accounts. The property can include dormant bank funds, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds and items from safe deposit boxes.
According to the office, one in 10 Missourians has unclaimed property, and the average return is about $300. Searches are available online around the clock at no charge.
