ST. LOUIS — Fly North Theatricals will open a new western-horror play Thursday, Oct. 22, at Greenfinch Theater.
The Invention of Lightning, written by Colin Healy and Bradley Rohlf, is set at the dawn of the transcontinental telegraph. The story follows two men stationed in the Nevada desert as they relay messages across a newly connected nation and begin to suspect something may be hiding in the wires.
The production is scheduled to run through Nov. 1. Fly North describes it as an original work combining the imagery of the American West with a supernatural response to the arrival of a transformative communications technology.
Rohlf is directing and co-wrote the play. Healy is the other co-playwright and composed the original score while also serving as sound-effects designer. Dizzy Funke is assistant director, and Jen Blum-Tatara designed the costumes.
The run adds a locally created production to the St. Louis fall theater calendar rather than a touring title. Greenfinch Theater is a small performance venue operated by members of the Fly North leadership team.
Performance dates, current ticket availability and any schedule changes are posted on Fly North’s official production page. The company had tickets on sale when checked Wednesday morning.
