CREVE COEUR, Mo. — A St. Louis woman faces four felony charges after prosecutors alleged she assaulted multiple Mercy Hospital employees, including two nursing staff members, before striking a public safety officer with her vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Sharrell Lomnick was charged Oct. 27 in St. Louis County Circuit Court following an incident reported Oct. 26 at Mercy Hospital, 615 S. New Ballas Road.

According to a probable cause statement from the Creve Coeur Police Department, officers responded around 10:36 p.m. after receiving reports that a hospital public safety officer had been struck by a vehicle.

WHAT INVESTIGATORS SAY HAPPENED

Police said hospital staff members were attempting to detain a patient who had left the hospital while under a medical hold when Lomnick arrived in an orange Dodge Charger. Investigators allege she exited the vehicle and physically assaulted two nursing staff members.

One nurse technician told investigators Lomnick grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground, where she was scratched and choked. The technician reported injuries to her neck, face and forearms, as well as difficulty breathing.

A registered nurse told police Lomnick struck her in the face, pulled her hair and pushed her to the ground, causing her head to hit the ground. The nurse was evaluated for a head injury and suspected concussion, according to the probable cause statement.

PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER ALLEGEDLY STRUCK BY VEHICLE

The confrontation escalated when a Mercy public safety officer attempted to intervene, according to investigators. Police allege Lomnick broke free, returned to the Dodge Charger, accelerated toward the officer and struck his left leg, causing him to roll over the hood.

The officer was visibly limping when police arrived, the probable cause statement said. A witness also told investigators they saw Lomnick strike the officer before driving away.

Creve Coeur police stopped the Dodge Charger roughly half a mile from the hospital. Lomnick was its sole occupant, and a Mercy public safety witness later identified her, according to the court filing.

Investigators reported that after receiving a Miranda warning, Lomnick gave a voluntary statement acknowledging that she should not have pulled a nurse’s hair or struck a security officer. The probable cause statement quotes her as describing the collision as unintentional.

FOUR FELONY CHARGES FILED

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Lomnick with second-degree assault of a special victim, a Class B felony; third-degree assault of a special victim, a Class D felony; attempted third-degree assault of a special victim, a Class E felony; and leaving the scene of an accident involving physical injury, a Class E felony.

The special victim designations in the assault counts concern emergency medical, hospital or trauma center personnel.

JUDGE SETS $200,000 CASH-ONLY BOND

Court records show a judge issued a warrant Oct. 27 and set bond at $200,000 cash only, without a 10% bond option. The court found reasonable grounds to believe Lomnick posed a danger to an alleged victim, the community or another person.

The warrant attachment outlines release restrictions, including GPS electronic monitoring, no contact with the alleged victims, and prohibitions on weapons and nonprescribed drugs.

The probable cause statement also says Lomnick had multiple outstanding traffic warrants and a suspended driver’s license. The court documents reviewed do not establish whether she has since posted bond or whether further proceedings have occurred.

The case is filed in the 21st Judicial Circuit Court of St. Louis County as 26SL-CR06852.

Lomnick is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
