ST. LOUIS — A federal jury convicted a 44-year-old St. Louis County man of being a felon in possession of firearms following a Hazelwood traffic stop, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Paris D. McPeters was found guilty Sept. 9 of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal prosecutors said a Hazelwood police officer stopped McPeters on June 18, 2024, after seeing his vehicle fail to stay in its lane.
The officer arrested McPeters after learning he had an active warrant. Before the vehicle was towed, a search uncovered a semi-automatic rifle, a semi-automatic pistol, loaded drum magazines, additional loaded magazines and ammunition, according to evidence presented at trial.
McPeters is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 9. The federal charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
The Hazelwood Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys J. Christian Goeke and Joseph Green prosecuted it.
