ST. LOUIS — A former St. Louis County man has pleaded guilty to helping a Jamaican lottery scam collect money from victims who were falsely told they had won prizes.
Christopher Gibbon, 55, admitted receiving cash, checks, money orders and at least one wire transfer from victims, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Gibbon admitted that callers in Jamaica told victims they had won a lottery but first needed to pay taxes and fees. Federal prosecutors said he received about $96,302 from eight victims between December 2016 and July 2018, kept 20 percent and transferred the remaining money to co conspirators.
Authorities said Gibbon left the St. Louis area in 2018 after learning he was under investigation. He was arrested in Connecticut in 2025.
Gibbon pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. His sentencing is scheduled for December 21.
