ST. LOUIS — A former downtown St. Louis tax preparer was sentenced Wednesday to 56 months in federal prison and ordered to repay $270,793 after her conviction on 16 counts involving false tax returns.
Latasha L. Frison, 39, operated a tax-preparation business under names that included Taxed Rite. A federal jury convicted her July 1 of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of false and fraudulent returns, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.
Federal prosecutors said the returns included invented businesses, fabricated expenses and improper tax-credit claims. Trial evidence covered 16 returns filed for six taxpayers for tax years 2020 through 2023. Investigators identified additional returns with similar information, the office said.
Sentence follows jury verdict
U.S. District Judge Joshua M. Divine imposed the prison term and restitution order. The government said Frison lived in Cahokia, Illinois, when the conduct occurred and now lives in Texas.
The IRS Criminal Investigation division investigated the case. The sentencing ends the trial phase, although defendants generally retain rights to seek post-trial relief or appeal.
