ST. LOUIS — Families can make art with natural dyes, sketch a still life and try outdoor painting at a free Saint Louis Art Museum program Sunday, Oct. 18.
The museum’s Family Sunday opening celebration, “Inspired by Nature,” runs from 1 to 4 p.m. in Sculpture Hall and on the South Terrace at One Fine Arts Drive in Forest Park.
A Create Lab in Sculpture Hall will offer nature-inspired artmaking throughout the afternoon. On the South Terrace, artist and naturalist Tara Morton will lead bandana-dyeing activities using natural dyes made from plants found in Forest Park.
A family tour of related works in the museum’s collection is scheduled for 1:30 to 2 p.m. Space is limited. Registration begins at 1 p.m. in Sculpture Hall, and the tour departs from the welcome desk.
From 2 to 3 p.m., visitors can sketch a still life with artist Robin Haugen and try outdoor painting with Dominique Begnaud using small watercolor sets.
The program accompanies “Women Impressionists and the Land,” which opens Saturday and continues through Jan. 10, 2027. That exhibition examines women artists’ approaches to landscapes and nature.
Sunday’s activities are listed as free. Admission to the special exhibition is priced separately, so families should review its ticket information when planning their visit.
