ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A proposed $1.04 million construction contract would add a traffic signal and pedestrian and bicycle connections at Route N and Hopewell and Duello roads, according to documents before the County Council on Monday.
The Oct. 26 agenda seeks approval of a $1,039,736.25 purchase from Gershenson Construction Co. of Eureka. The request lists a 285-calendar-day contract term; it does not provide a confirmed construction start date.
Transportation staff say the intersection design would accommodate a future widening of Route N. The project also includes connections on the north and south sides to existing sidepaths along Hopewell and Duello roads.
In an Oct. 5 memo, Transportation Director Amanda Brauer said growth and increasing traffic now warrant a signal that was not warranted when the intersections were aligned in 2022.
County documents identify $564,995.62 in federal reimbursement for the work, about 54% of the proposed construction price.
The purchasing summary says five bids were received Sept. 8. Staff recommend Gershenson, the second-lowest bidder, and acknowledge that its price exceeds the engineer’s estimate.
The recommendation is a proposed public purchase, with council approval still requested. It does not establish that work has begun or that the contract has been awarded.
The council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the county administration building in St. Charles.
