WASHINGTON — Trump aides have publicly floated rapper Nicki Minaj as a possible White House press secretary, sparking speculation about a government role for the entertainer. No formal appointment or job offer has been confirmed.
The discussion followed an October 25 social media post from White House communications director Steven Cheung, who shared a video of Minaj discussing President Donald Trump aboard Air Force One.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Cheung wrote on X.
The White House’s official X account responded with an eyes emoji. Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz also joined the exchange, asking Minaj’s fans, known as the Barbz, what they thought of the idea.
Minaj responded with an American flag and a grinning face with sweat emoji. Her response did not confirm whether she would consider the position.
The Independent characterized Cheung’s suggestion as a joke. The available reporting does not establish that Minaj is part of a formal hiring process.
Minaj has become a public supporter of Trump and joined him for a campaign trip to Michigan over the weekend.
The discussion comes after Katie Zacharia’s brief tenure as White House press secretary ended earlier this month. The Wall Street Journal reported that she had left the position.
As of October 26, the social media exchange had produced no confirmed announcement naming Minaj to the position.
