ST. LOUIS — Jacob Fowler stopped all 46 shots he faced as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Blues 2–0 Tuesday night at Enterprise Center.
St. Louis more than doubled Montreal’s 20 shots on goal but could not turn that advantage into a score. The Blues put 24 shots on Fowler in the third period alone, after recording nine in the first and 13 in the second.
Zachary Bolduc opened the scoring at 8:37 of the second period. Mike Matheson and Alexandre Texier assisted on the even-strength goal, which broke a scoreless tie after the opening period.
Florian Xhekaj made it 2–0 at 2:17 of the third, redirecting a shot for an even-strength goal assisted by Matheson and Kirby Dach. Matheson finished with assists on both Montreal goals.
Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington made 18 saves on 20 shots. Montreal managed only three shots in the third period, but Fowler’s work at the other end preserved the two-goal margin.
The NHL’s official game summary named Fowler the first star, followed by Matheson and Bolduc.
The final shot totals underline how the game was decided: St. Louis produced considerably more attempts that reached the net, while Montreal converted twice and received a shutout from its starting goaltender.
