ST. CHARLES, Mo. — St. Charles County plans two public information sessions on data centers as county officials consider extending a temporary moratorium on new projects.
The county said sessions are planned for January and April, with the first expected to feature experts and county officials from public health, community development and administration. A location and exact dates have not yet been announced.
The County Council enacted the moratorium in July. It is scheduled to expire at the end of January, and County Executive Steve Ehlmann is asking the council to extend it for another six months. The extension requires a council vote and should not be treated as approved until that action occurs.
County officials said no data-center proposal is currently pending. The sessions are intended to give residents and policymakers more time to examine questions involving land use, electricity demand, water, noise, tax incentives and public-health effects before permanent rules are considered.
The announcement does not identify a proposed ordinance, zoning standard or incentive package. Those details remain reporting questions for future council agendas and meeting packets.
Residents can follow the county’s official Agenda Center for a moratorium-extension vote. The county’s November 4 notice explains the planned sessions.
