ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police say homicide detectives arrested 24 year old Diontae Makins on September 16, 2026, in connection with the August 19, 2025 shooting death of Jerome Mason Jr. in the Walnut Park East neighborhood.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Makins with first degree murder, attempted first degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of armed criminal action.
Court documents allege the shooting happened in the 5500 block of West Florissant Avenue. Prosecutors allege Makins, acting with others, shot Mason and fired at a white BMW sedan.
Prosecutors also allege Makins pointed a firearm at Mason and demanded that he “give it up” during an attempted robbery.
Police identified the victim as Jerome Mason Jr. of St. Louis City.
The charges are allegations. Makins is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
