ST. LOUIS — The Saint Louis Art Museum will open three fall exhibitions to the public during a free evening program Friday.
The public opening runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6 at the museum in Forest Park. The featured exhibitions are “Unsettling the City: Julie Mehretu’s ‘Epigraph, Damascus,’” “Signs Under Pressure: Jasper Johns Lithographs” and a new contemporary installation, “Art After 1945.”
Museum curators Melissa Venator and Clare Kobasa are scheduled to give multiple brief gallery talks during the evening. Venator is the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation assistant curator of modern art, and Kobasa is associate curator of prints, drawings and photographs.
The opening offers visitors a chance to encounter three different approaches to postwar and contemporary art in one visit: Mehretu’s layered engagement with urban space and conflict, Johns’ experiments in printmaking, and a broader installation drawn from art made after 1945.
Admission to the opening is free. Visitors should review the museum’s current parking, accessibility and gallery policies before arriving, particularly because a multi-exhibition opening can draw a larger evening crowd.
The museum lists the program in its November events calendar, along with other free Friday tours and programs.
